March 7th – a flock of seven Chaffinches heading northeast over the rooftops in the rain was a first sign of landbird passage.

March 11th – further humid air coming through. Rain early with an easterly breeze then sunshine towards midday. At West Hill some passage eastwards of a Great Tit, Pied wagtail and 27 Chaffinches. As it brightened up late morning several Meadow pipits came in, a male Stonechat landed on a rock, then perched in a treetop before flying down onto a dried stalk of Alexanders and starting to preen. Minutes later a Firecrest appeared in the Ivy and thorn hedge below the slope. Eight Meadow pipits passed eastwards before it became quiet.

I counted 420 Brent geese flying up-Channel and a party of three Red-breasted mergansers.
